Are You Drowning in Overwhelm?
Have you ever felt trapped in a whirlwind of chaos, as if you’re drowning in an endless list of tasks? Do you feel like you’re on a roller coaster with no way to get off? For over a decade, I lived in that constant state of being on edge, unaware that a dysregulated nervous system and unrecognised anxiety were pulling the strings of my life. I believed my independence and drive were my greatest strengths, but they led me down a path of unhealthy patterns that drained me.
Understanding the Struggle
If you resonate with feeling disconnected, emotionally exhausted, and desperately trying to regain control, know that you’re not alone. I spent years navigating these feelings, often judging myself harshly. The struggle grew more intense as my inner voice urged me for change, yet years of suppressing my true emotions left me feeling stuck and desperate.
Becoming a Role Model
As a parent, I wanted to be a role model for my strong-willed daughter, teaching her the importance of kindness without being taken advantage of, how to respond rather than react, and the art of letting go of the “shoulds” and “haves.” It was during this time that I learned an invaluable lesson: you can't pour from an empty cup. I understand that this is incredibly hard to do when we’re in the depths of darkness, barely holding on. I recognise that my words may be difficult or uncomfortable to hear, as I know from my own experience that conversations like this can feel upsetting when struggling. However, my hope in sharing this is that it may provide a sense of understanding or even inspiration, as what unfolded ultimately led to awareness in meaningful ways. All I ever wanted was to be that role model, yet I could barely breathe under the weight of my own challenges while suppressing them so no one could see my struggles. However, a series of events gave me a wake-up call, prompting me to reevaluate and explore new ways of doing things.
Shifting Perspectives
As I began to shift my mindset and embrace all my emotions—integrating and releasing them—I discovered a new perspective on life. I had to learn to unlearn many ingrained habits and beliefs, which often meant getting uncomfortable. This process was essential because after years of living a certain way, real change requires confronting those deep-rooted patterns. My nervous system had adapted to keep me safe, creating habits that served as protective mechanisms. Yet, as I began to outgrow these habits, I felt a profound sense of being stuck. The challenge was to navigate this discomfort so that, as a family, we could understand and rework our responses to stress together.
We started making choices that felt right to us, even when they seemed unconventional. While self-doubt lingered, the call for change became undeniable. We chose to home educate our daughter, sold what we believed to be our forever home, and even walked away from a successful business—without knowing what lay ahead. It felt unbelievably daunting, but we found a beautiful flow in allowing life to unfold without the need to control everything.
Transforming Struggle into Growth
There were moments four years ago when I felt literally broken, as if the pieces of me could never be fixed. I have come to understand that this breaking was my body’s way of shedding the darkness that no longer served me. It was a powerful push to embrace transformation—a rebirth into a brighter version of myself. The brokenness became a call to action: stay in anguish or push through and emerge anew. Writing this, I can see how far I have come; the old version of me would have scolded myself for being so dramatic and would never have shared such vulnerability for fear of what others might think. The damage we unknowingly do to ourselves when trying to be positive and strong, while comparing ourselves to others, is profound—thinking that our situation could be far worse doesn’t actually help. There’s no resilience created there, just an ongoing cycle of distress.
Finding Joy in the Journey
Today, I sit with a deep sense of joy and passion to help others on their journeys—shifting my focus from past struggles to meaningful growth. I’m grateful for all my experiences—both the highs and the lows, the darkness and the light—because they have shaped who I am today. Each challenge has allowed me to redirect my energy into something positive, transforming what once weighed me down into a source of strength. This shift empowers me to support others as they navigate their own path.

If you can relate, know that you’re not alone. Everyone’s path is unique, and it’s perfectly ok to speak up and seek support. Our choices might seem unconventional, but embracing change can lead to surprising and beautiful transformations.
