Have you ever felt overwhelmed by your thoughts, like you’re drowning in a sea of confusion and self-criticism? Many of us know what it’s like to struggle to find our footing when life throws challenges our way. In a world that often pushes us toward quick solutions and labels, navigating these feelings can be tough. But what if instead of rushing to fix ourselves, we took a moment to pause and reflect?
A Shift in Perspective
Rather than jumping straight to solutions or criticising ourselves, I’ve found that approaching my challenges with curiosity and kindness makes a significant difference. This shift has allowed me to be more compassionate toward myself and others. When we view our feelings through the lens of curiosity, it’s like turning on a light in a dark room. Everyone’s experience is unique, and what works for one person may not work for another. This understanding has been a game-changer for me.
My Personal Journey
I remember times when I felt completely lost, as if I were drowning in my own thoughts. It often seemed like I was trapped beneath the surface, struggling to breathe and unable to see a way out. I believed there was only one way to handle my struggles—trying to deal with them alone or pushing them aside because I felt too busy to address them. It felt easier to keep moving, but that only left me feeling more trapped. Sound familiar? This mindset prevented me from seeing the bigger picture, like wearing blinders that blocked my view of possible solutions.
As I began to embrace kindness and curiosity towards myself, I started to slow down and realise that feeling better isn’t just about finding answers; it’s about supporting myself and exploring different paths. Creating a safe space for my feelings opened my eyes to many ways I can grow. I remember a moment when I felt adrift in a storm. Instead of jumping to conclusions, I began to ask myself questions. Rather than thinking, “I’m such a failure for feeling this way,” I shifted to, “What is this feeling trying to teach me?” or “How can I show myself kindness right now?” Questions like “What do I need to know right now?” became my guiding light.

If you’re feeling lost, I encourage you to take small steps—perhaps start a journal to express your feelings or pay attention to what you experience when you feel overwhelmed. Journaling can help us process our emotions and track our growth over time. It’s ok to feel overwhelmed. Remember, finding a way forward rarely follows a straight path, and reaching out to friends or seeking professional help can be incredibly supportive when facing tough times.
Consider this: when we allow ourselves to be open and share our struggles, we lighten our own load and create an environment where others feel safe to do the same. It’s like forming a circle of support around us, where we can uplift one another and remind ourselves that we’re not alone.

As we navigate this together, let’s focus on kindness and curiosity. By choosing kindness over pressure and curiosity instead of judgment, we can create a supportive space for our growth.
